Founded in 1995 by a group of five women with disabilities, AKASA has grown into an organization with strong connections to both local and international partners, working to secure the rights of the disabled community, particularly women.

With beneficiary members spread across Sri Lanka, AKASA operates with three key objectives: contributing to national development efforts for the disabled community, challenging societal attitudes and environmental barriers that marginalize individuals with disabilities, and conducting research and policy advocacy to advance disability rights.

The organization implements a range of programs, including mental health development, livelihood enhancement, rights affirmation, sports and arts activities, research and policy formulation, and welfare initiatives, all dedicated to supporting women with disabilities.
