The Centre for Peacebuilding and Reconciliation (CPBR) was founded in 2002 by Dishani Jayaweera and Professor Jayantha Senevirathne, with a vision of healing and unity in a country deeply affected by conflict. For more than two decades, CPBR, a home for diversity, has worked across Sri Lanka, nurturing compassion, empathy, and understanding in communities shaped by trauma.

Peacebuilding and conflict transformation are at the heart of CPBR’s work. The organization believes that sustainable peace begins with inner healing and extends outward to communities, society, and nature.

CPBR’s work is carried forward through three interconnected initiatives:

  • APINAM: Religions for Humanity – a coalition of faith leaders and community leaders from across Sri Lanka’s religious traditions, working together to promote dialogue, reconciliation, and shared humanity.
  • WOMAN – a collective of women religious leaders, educators, youth, community leaders, and women affected by violence. WOMAN focuses on healing the soul, soil, mind, and body, while advancing peace, justice, and gender equity.
  • SANGYOG – an interfaith youth coalition that chooses to live in love, fostering connection, solidarity, and nonviolence among young people from diverse backgrounds.

In 2019, CPBR began a thoughtful transition, one rooted in ancestral wisdom and responsive to the realities of the present moment. This evolution deepened its commitment to holistic peacebuilding and intergenerational leadership.

In 2022, CPBR embarked on a new chapter, engaging a group of young humanists from multi-ethnic and multi-religious backgrounds. Together, they seek to “weave a human web,” strengthening connections across communities and nurturing a shared future grounded in dignity and care.

Guided by the founding principle “Heal Oneself – Heal Others – Heal Nature,” CPBR continues its journey with courage and hope.
