Community Brotherhood Organisation, established in January 2020, is a volunteer-driven initiative dedicated to advocating for marginalized communities and implementing social development interventions.
Guided by its vision of a just and fair society that respects diversity, the organization’s mission is to create sustainable social change through inter-religious dialogue and community empowerment, promoting justice, equity, and equality.
The organization primarily works with Sinhalese, Tamil, and Muslim communities, with a focus on women, youth, and indigenous groups. Its approach integrates feminist principles, emphasizing gender equality, dismantling oppressive systems, and encouraging collective action.
Programs are implemented through grants and fundraising, with a commitment to transparency and accountability. Their project focuses on addressing and preventing gender-based violence (GBV) in the Katana and Negombo Divisional Secretariat Divisions of Gampaha District.
Through community engagement, education, policy advocacy, and support services, the project addresses GBV’s root causes, including cultural norms, limited awareness, and weak support systems.
Key objectives include raising awareness about GBV, empowering individuals to combat it, identifying support services for survivors, and advocating for policy change. Beneficiaries include women community leaders, teachers, healthcare providers, NGOs, policymakers, and journalists.
Expected outcomes include improved awareness, stronger stakeholder relationships, trained leaders equipped to prevent GBV, and enhanced community-led awareness campaigns.
