The Islamic Women’s Association for Research and Empowerment (IWARE) was created in 2003. Since its inception, the organization has emerged as a vital force for change in Kattankudy and the broader Batticaloa District.
By championing the rights and empowerment of women and girls, IWARE addresses urgent issues such as gender-based violence and advocates for Policy reform. The organization not only supports victims through emergency services and safe shelters but also educates community members—including men and boys—on women’s rights.
IWARE’s initiatives extend to enhancing the political presence of women, providing training to elected representatives, and promoting their effective engagement in local governance. Through collaborative partnerships and community outreach, IWARE equips women with essential skills for economic independence and advocacy, thereby fostering a culture of equality and resilience.
The project initiated by IWARE is designed to foster an empowering environment for women, particularly those engaged in activism and community service. With a commitment to enhancing women’s roles and achievements, IWARE seeks to create a framework that nurtures collaboration, skill development, and resource mobilization.
Additionally, recognizing the importance of visibility, IWARE plans to produce a comprehensive publication that highlights its impactful work and the incredible success stories of the women it supports. This publication will serve as a vital tool for resource mobilization, showcasing IWARE’s contributions and enhancing its presence within the community, thereby attracting further support for its mission to empower women effectively.
