We are thrilled to invite you to a special event celebrating Pride Month, hosted by IPPF Africa Region in collaboration with Feminist Opportunities Now (FON) and Reproductive Health Network Kenya (RHNK). This event is a fantastic opportunity to connect, celebrate, and honor our diverse LGBTIQ+ community in Kenya.
Event Highlights:
About the Movie:
“SHEE” is a poignant love story set in Nairobi, following a lesbian couple, Shee and Magnus, as they navigate the aftermath of an unplanned pregnancy. The film explores themes of trust, choice, and communication within a same-sex relationship, highlighting the challenges posed by Kenya’s legal and financial barriers to parenthood for LGBTQIA+ couples. Despite the complex themes, “SHEE” blends humor and optimism, offering a hopeful outlook for the couple’s future. The film captures intimate moments in their Nairobi apartment, portraying their journey through life’s critical decisions and their impact on their relationship.
About the Filmmaker:
Aduda Hera is a Kenyan writer, director, and producer based in Nairobi. She co-founded Sarelle Consulting, a creative film production company and marketing agency. A 2020 graduate of Filamujuani Film Foundation, Aduda has collaborated with UNICEF, FIFA, and The Art of Music. Aduda’s activism includes working as an LGBTQIA+ social media activist for Come Speak Easy and participating in campaigns for underprivileged communities. Drawing from her own experiences, she wrote “Shee” to highlight the struggles of Kenya’s LGBTQIA+ community and spark conversations about societal taboos and discrimination.
