Bridging the Generations: Menopause and Menstruation, A Feminist Issue

Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) have long been a cornerstone of feminist advocacy, securing critical advancements in contraception access, menstrual health, safe abortion, and maternal health. These gains have transformed the lives of young women, girls, and gender-diverse people, ensuring bodily autonomy, dignity, and justice.

Yet, the reproductive needs of women evolve across different stages of life. As we work toward holistic, inclusive, and lifelong SRHR frameworks, it is imperative to acknowledge how reproductive health continues to shape our experiences beyond menstruation, pregnancy, and fertility.

Menopause is not an ending—it is a transition. It is a time when the body shifts, when new SRHR needs emerge, and when care, community, and knowledge become more urgent than ever. Yet, menopause remains underfunded, understudied, and largely ignored in mainstream health policies.

This session is a call to expand feminist SRHR conversations, policies, and funding to reflect the full reproductive journey—from menstruation to menopause and beyond. It is a space of knowledge-sharing, radical care, and intergenerational solidarity, where we will reflect on how aging women navigate pleasure, health and autonomy.
